NOTICE OF PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX RATE CHANGES
The Town of Cumberland, Rhode Island, proposes to increase its property tax levy to $78,383,624 for the FY 2526 budget years; the property tax levy for FY 24- 25 is $75,367,471.
THIS IS A PROPOSED INCREASE OF 4.0% to the tax levy.
The FY 24-25 tax rates and associated bills with the due date of May 31st were mailed on May 13th. The proposed FY 25-26 tax rates reflected in this advertise- ment are only estimates, as the assessments for 12/31/25 are not finalized and are subject to change. Proposed FY25-26 rates will be adopted with the Budget in June of 2025.
The Town of Cumberland is currently conducting a revaluation of property, which is mandated by the State of Rhode Island. The revaluation has yet to be finalized for 12-31-25 assessments and as specified above the tax rates are only estimates. It has been estimated that the proposed increase in property tax revenues will result in a property tax rate of $12.70 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for real estate and $30.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for tangible personal property, as compared to the current property tax rate of $12.27 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for real estate and $30.88 per $1,000 of assessed valuation for tangible personal property.

A proposed property tax rate of $12.70 for real estate and $30.88 for tangible prop- erty would be needed in the coming budget year to have an overall levy increase of 4.00%, which is the maximum levy authorized by section 44-5-2 of the general laws.
The public hearings to discuss the proposed budget for the Town of Cumberland will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and Monday, June 2nd, 2025, beginning at 6:00 pm. The meetings will be held in a hybrid fashion, both in person and via Zoom.
The budget for the Town of Cumberland will be considered for a final vote at a Town Council meeting to be held in person and via Zoom on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 7:30 pm
